Moohan KimMoohan Kim is an associate professor in Landscape Architecture at Kongju National University in South Korea and the founder and CEO of ITLs, a company specializing in precision spatial analysis and integrated design solutions using ground-based LiDAR technology. With extensive expertise in digital landscape design, Moohan has pioneered advanced methods in spatial data collection and analysis, applying high-resolution 3D scanning and digital twin technologies to architectural, landscaping, and heritage preservation projects.
Throughout his career, Moohan has successfully led numerous interdisciplinary projects, including climate-responsive landscape designs, historic site restorations, and urban space innovations. His design approach uniquely integrates detailed digital surveys with creative spatial interventions, resulting in impactful, context-sensitive designs recognized both nationally and internationally. Moohan’s notable achievements include receiving the prestigious A’ Design Award for his innovative landscape design at a historical martyrdom site. His projects consistently reflect a deep commitment to preserving cultural heritage while responding adaptively to contemporary environmental challenges. In academia, Moohan actively contributes to advancing the field by researching the integration of LiDAR with BIM and GPR technologies, enabling precise site assessments and enhancing sustainable design practices. His ongoing research and publications significantly influence both academic and professional communities. Committed to fostering international collaboration, Moohan is currently expanding his business model globally, particularly in the United States and Europe, where he develops innovative solutions for urban regeneration, heritage conservation, and sustainable landscape architecture. As a member of the International Association of Designers, Moohan aims to collaborate with global leaders, exchange knowledge, and continue developing cutting-edge solutions that elevate landscape architecture's role in addressing global environmental and social challenges. Archipelago Show Garden by Moohan Kim This enchanting show garden, selected for the Suncheon International Garden Fair from April to October 2023, captures coastal scenery inspired by South Korea's South Sea. Using sand for concept modeling and laser scanning for topographical design, it highlights the coastline's natural beauty and showcases innovative garden design. This fusion of art, technology, and nature invites visitors to immerse in the beauty and creativity of landscape architecture, embodying the harmony between nature and human ingenuity. Martyrs' Maze Meditative Sanctuary by Moohan Kim Situated within a Catholic martyrdom shrine, this contemplative space features a maze path that symbolizes the pilgrim's journey, offering a serene setting for reflection. The design integrates HPL and CNC-cut stainless steel, complemented by reclaimed wood benches and volcanic stone flooring, seamlessly blending traditional reverence with modern aesthetics. The use of durable materials ensures longevity, while the meticulous craftsmanship fosters a harmonious environment that honors the martyrs' legacy with both creativity and reverence. |
