Szabolcs NémethI was born in 1971 in Keszthely, a small town on Lake Balaton, Hungary, where I grew up.
In 1992 I was admitted to the Hungarian University of Arts and Design (MOME) to study industrial design. In 1995, During my studies, I co-founded my first creative design company, where I primarily performed image design and traditional printing preparation and execution tasks. I entered and won a few smaller Hungarian design competitions. In the meantime, I participated in several international workshops, as well as CEEPUS and ERASMUS programs. (Budapest, Hannover, Ljubljana, Krakow) In 1997 I obtained my MA master's degree at the university's Department of Visual Communication, as a graphic designer. My diploma work was an anamorphic wall calendar, which also included a patent application "Object, especially advertising carrier or ornament containing reflected image and a process for producing same" 1997-1999. I worked as a demonstrator at the University. The rise of digital technologies opened up new horizons in my activities, both in 2D and 3D design. Using the full range of visual communication tools and continuously developing my knowledge was necessary for my development. I worked for the advertising industry through agencies, both on digital and printed surfaces. In 1999, I founded a two-person company with sculptress Katalin Kalmar. Our goal was to create a company in which we could create new quality by combining our classical graphic and sculptural education and skills. The same year, we won the design and implementation tender for the most prestigious state awards. These are the lifetime achievement awards for art and science in Hungary. (Kossuth Award and Szechenyi Award) Today, for more than a quarter of a century, the company I run has been under contract with the state to produce the awards. 2000: With the visual process developed in my diploma thesis, I won the tender for the supply of promotional products by Siemens Hungary. In connection with this, I participated in several internal graphic design projects, typically with offset printing preparation and implementation. I applied the anamorphic calendar with unique visual content to the image of many companies on demand. My clients included: Oracle, Siemens, and House of Terror Hungary). In the meantime, we continuously participated in public sculpture competitions. Our clients were local governments and the Hungarian state. We mostly designed and produced sculptures from bronze and stone, from full-length, figurative works to equestrian statues. I also designed Braille Field Table for the visually impaired and blind in bronze and public drinking fountains. As a result of our work, I gained deep knowledge and experience in metalworking and lost-wax bronze casting. In parallel, I continue my design activities in this company to this day. In 2015, I presented my Wormy Compact Fishing Systems project, which won the most prestigious award in the Hungarian design profession, the Hungarian Design Award, which can only be won by 3 designers per year by the decision of the Hungarian Design Council and the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office. In the period following the design award, the innovation was exhibited at the Hungarian consulates in many European capitals. The project includes an industrial property protection package, the pillar of which is the patent, which after a nearly 9-year examination period was protected in all areas applied for, so the production and distribution of the product enjoys exclusivity in the world's largest markets until 2037-38. (EP, US, CN, AU, KR, HK) https://patents.google.com/patent/EP3285573B1/en From 2016 I presented the Wormy compact fishing system on the largest overseas crowdfunding platforms, from where I obtained the first customers and then more serious orders. I even built and ran a campaign on the Japanese Makuake platform, achieving relevant sales. In these campaigns, I produced the entire visual communication content myself, and I also designed and organized the complete design and delivery of the product to nearly 60 countries. 2020 In addition to my product, which was originally made with CNC machining, I developed a new, cost-effective mass-produced product line. To do this, I had to acquire the knowledge necessary for injection molding series production. In 2021, implementing my inventive solutions during product development, I filed another patent application: “Device, especially for attaching a sports camera to a base body” HUP2100316A1, which received Hungarian protection. In 2024, I was able to move in a slightly more artistic direction, fulfilling an old desire. I completed my first Anamorphic mosaic public drinking fountain, which was made using more than 50,000 pieces of glass mosaic. Currently, my greatest attention is still focused on the Wormy project, but in parallel, I also plan and implement other design projects. I also assist designers who want to come out with their products and need real help in the areas of industrial property protection and crowdfunding. In my experience, relatively few designers have the professional career to go through international patenting processes that can last up to ten years on their own. Due to the complicated, expensive, and extremely long examination stages, the typical designer is not familiar with this area, as apart from patent lawyers, only those who personally go through the entire process with their product will get to know it. That is why it is very important for me to share this knowledge. At the same time, I define myself much more as a creator than as a consultant. I like to teach by giving good advice, but I think I like to learn even more. Wormy Compact Fishing Systems by Szabolcs Nemeth The Wormy compact modular fishing rod was invented by Szabolcs Nemeth. He created an almost unbreakable fishing system that is usable for many fishing methods. Its tiny size allows you to take it anywhere. Can be used for casting from shore, fishing from boat, kayak or Sup. It is suitable for ice fishing in winter and snorkel fishing in summer. This is truly year round fishing equipment. Thanks to the removable trigger, it can be equipped with all existing reel types. We can swap out spring rods with different sensitivities. It is extremely durable, so it will serve its owner for a long time. |
