Jiani Zeng (Zh:曾佳旎) is an award-winning industrial designer and researcher focusing on recreating tangible experiences in products and build-environment. Her work toes the line between digital and physical realms, reinventing material expression and exploring new design opportunities with emerging technology such as AIoT, soft-robotics and multi-material 3D printing.
Jiani’s work has been awarded with Red Dot, Core77 Design Award, IDEA Silver, IDSA GSMA, A'Design Award Platinum and Gold, IDA Gold, and featured by Milan Design Week, INNOVATION Magazine, Artsthread, italianbark, LUXOS, Women of China and CBS. Her research is published on CHI and IEEE.
Jiani graduated from the University of Nottingham with 1st Class BEng Hons product design in 2015, Master of Science at MIT in 2020. She has consulted and designed for multiple companies and research labs, including Seymourpowell, Hilti, Furrytail, MIT Design Lab and MIT Media Lab. She is the Principle of Massless Matter, a San Francisco-based design and innovation studio. She is also the co-founder and CPO of Butlr Technologies Inc.


Honghao Deng (zh:邓鸿浩) is an award-winning computational designer and innovator focusing on building context-aware built-environment with the integration of IoT, AR, and tangible interfaces. He holds a Master of Design Technology with Distinction at Harvard GSD. He is the President of butlr. He formerly was a researcher at City Science Group, MIT Media Lab.
Honghao has won multiple international design awards in interaction, product, and architecture, including Core77 Award, Platinum A' Design Award, iF Design Award, Fast Compay World Changing Ideas, 1st Place Future Cities Contest, 1st place CHI Play Game Design Award, Ubicomp/ISWC Design Award. His research is published on SIGGRAPH, CHI, TEI, DIS and ISWC. His work has been covered by Domus, CCTV, ArchDaily, Arab News, the National and CBS.

Unream Voxel Printed Lamp by Jiani Zeng In the daytime, Unream is an artifact that reflects sunlight to display dynamically; at night, it uses artificial lights to create a fantasy-like atmosphere. With Unream, the designers hope to blur the line between the digital and physical world, bringing impossible materials to real-world product design. Unream is the first 3D printed object that displays dynamically by itself. With multi-material voxel printing, the designers expand binary material presence to dynamic material experience, reimagining the relationship between human, space, and objects.
