Eisuke Tachikawa

Eisuke Tachikawa is the head of NOSIGNER, a design firm aiming to create a hopeful future. He has worked on many projects that tackle social issues, handling climate change mitigation and adaptation, renewable energy, disaster prevention, community revitalization, and more. Aiming to foster innovators in various sectors of industry, academia, and government, He advocates “Evolutional Creativity,” which tells the essence of creativity from the natural phenomenon of biological evolution. This approach won him the prestigious Shichihei Yamamoto Prize, the leading academic award in humanities. Aside from being the chairman of the Benesse Educational Research & Development Institute's "Future of Higher Education" group, Tachikawa is currently working to spread creative education. As a highly expressive designer of products, graphics, and architecture, he has won over 100 design awards in Japan and internationally, including the Good Design Gold Award, the Design for Asia Grand Award, and the German Design Gold Award. He was also a juror for the Good Design Awards, ACC Tokyo Creative Awards, Design for Asia Awards, and World Architecture Festival. In 2021, he became the youngest President of the Japan Industrial Design Association (JIDA), Japan's oldest national design organization, and contributed to holding the World Design Conference in Japan for the first time in 34 years. In 2023, he joined the board of directors for the World Design Organization (WDO), an advisory body to the United Nations. His major projects include OLIVE, Tokyo Disaster Prevention, PANDAID, Yamamotoyama, Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars, YOXO, and more. He is also the author of Evolutionary Creativity (Ama no Kaze, 2021) and Design and Innovation (Pi International, 2016).

Rebranded Tea Package by Eisuke Tachikawa

Yamamotoyama Rebranded Tea Package by Eisuke Tachikawa Yamamotoyama is one of the oldest and most established tea merchants in Japan. It has been the first to sell Green tea today. With the concept of Return to the origin of Edo, Nosigner have redesigned the packages to keep the traditional tea culture alive and pass it on to the future. To make them modern while retaining the charm of the long history brand, Nosigner referred to the traditional colors and structure of the scrolls with Yamamotoyama's original small crests and the calligraphy style of Edo.

A Website with Open Designs for Survival by Eisuke Tachikawa

Olive A Website with Open Designs for Survival by Eisuke Tachikawa Olive is a wiki site that gathers and shares practical knowledge during a disaster. The project was named Olive, derived from the letter O (an emblem of the Japanese national flag) + Live (to live on). Ideas were quickly gathered with help from worldwide, on how to build necessities to survive in affected areas without the supplies. It achieved over one million page views within three weeks. It is still expanding today as a database of disaster countermeasures using collective intelligence.

Pandaid Website For Infectious Diseases by Eisuke Tachikawa Pandaid is a website dedicated to protecting lives from pandemics. It is co-edited by volunteers, including doctors, editors, and more. The editorial emphasis goes towards providing scientific facts in ways that are easy to understand and to implement. As part of the project, there're other developments, a face shield to prevent splashes, signage to protect social distance humorously, and posters to communicate its importance.
